Ever since Louis Vuitton sent models clad in bright and big checkered garments down its spring/summer 2013 runway, checkered clothes have been sprouting like mushrooms after a bout of rain.
Rita Ora, Nicole Kidman, Pixie Lott, Jennifer Lopez, and Kim Kardashian are just some of the celebrities who have sported checked dresses. This trend has also been embraced by the fashion blogging community.
Rita Ora switches the Christmas lights on at Westfield in White City in London on November 3, 2014 / Nicole Kidman at the ‘Hemingway & Gellhorn’ photocall during the 65th annual Cannes Film Festival on May 25, 2012 / Pixie Lott arrives for a private gig at the exclusive Werewolf nightclub in Piccadilly to launch her third album in London on August 6, 2014
Jennifer Lopez at the 3rd Annual iHeartRadio Ultimate Pool Party presented by Visit Florida in Miami on June 28, 2014 / Kim Kardashian grabs a coffee before heading back to her Manhattan hotel on October 7, 2011
I love mod dresses and wouldn’t hesitate to go for anything from Louis Vuitton S/S 2013 for a date or a special function. Still, you have to admit that there’s a certain style limit to these dresses before they become repetitive and boring.
But fret not because there are bloggers who we can look up to for steadfast and infallible styling ideas. Just how did they style their checkered dresses? Check them out:
1. Mary Alice from Field of Foxes
Black and white checks take a lot of courage to wear. But yellow green checks? You have to be a gutsy, stylish babe to pull it off. Mary Alice seems to be both. She looks like she just got off the runway in this outfit. The dress is a strong statement maker, so Mary Alice kept her accessories minimal. She only opted for a color-blocked clutch and metallic pumps.
2. Maria from Stylissim
Take your checkered dress to the streets. Wear it like how Maria did in this ensemble. She partnered it with a leather jacket. She even had a light jacket wrapped around her waist. Two jackets in one look? Why not?
3. Adelle from Petite Brown Sugar
Edgy Adelle cinches her checkered dress at the waist to give it more form. The addition of the hat and boots gave this look a festival appeal. Too bad Coachella is already over, or this would have been a wonderful inspiration. Adelle also did great styling with a big yellow clutch.
4. Sonia from Style Journal
Channel your inner Twiggy with your checkered dress. Sonia did. She donned this mod dress and went ’60s all the way with thigh-high socks, a beehive hairdo, and oxford shoes.
5. Nana from Nana Stars (Blog Offline)
Nana is au naturel in her spring-perfect powder blue checked dress, which she paired with another checked item — her flats! Like Nana, you can also add hints of blacks in your blue checkered look.
