Who’s Your Best & Worst Dressed at the 85th Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon?

Tuesday, February 5, 2013 • by Eryzle

We still have a few weeks left until the 2013 Academy Awards and I bet it would again be hard for us to choose who will stand out. One thing’s for sure, the celebrities will wear the most stunning gowns and dresses. But while we’re waiting, let’s first have a look at some of the interesting dresses worn by the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress nominees during the 85th Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Monday, February 4. Who knows? Their dresses could be close to what they will wear at the awards ceremony.

Naomi Watts and Anne Hathaway were both in black while Jennifer Lawrence opted to wear white. Quvenzhane Wallis and Amy Adams opted for purple. Jessica Chastain was in floral dress while Sally Field and Helen Hunt went for ivory/pewter. Jacki Weaver was the only Best Supporting Actress nominee who dared to wear bright orange.

Let’s get into details now, shall we?

1. Anne Hathaway in The Row Resort 2013 Dress

Anne Hathaway has an eclectic style. Sometimes she dresses edgy, girly and most of the time classic, elegant. And at the luncheon, she opted for the latter as she dressed in The Row Dorning dress from the brand’s resort 2013 collection. It’s a simple and classic black cotton blend sleeveless dress but the rear peplum made it interesting. The 30-year-old actress truly knows effortless elegance.

2. Naomi Watts in Valentino Resort 2013 Dress

Effortlessly stylish. The 44-year-old actress looked elegant as well in a black cotton lace embroidered Valentino dress with boat neckline and flared skirt. She’s the type who wears timeless pieces so this one’s not surprising.

3. Jennifer Lawrence in Chloe Spring 2013 Dress

She has had a lot of fashion hits and misses but her diverse fashion style always interests me. She amazes me, yes; but, there are also times when she leaves me dumbfounded— take for example at the People’s Choice Awards 2013 where she wore a Valentino dress that looked sloppy on her. The Chloe dress that she wore to the luncheon is, again, not something that flattered her figure. I don’t think I could say anything good about her entire look here. The seams, ruched top, ruffled hemline and the entire silhouette of the dress is very unflattering. It’s eye-catching but it’s not stunning, you know what I mean? Her black Casadei pumps didn’t complement, too. And with her kind of awkward poses, it seemed like she’s not even comfortable in this Chloe spring 2013 dress.

4. Jessica Chastain in Erdem Resort 2013 Dress

Zero Dark Thirty‘s Jessica Chastain went ladylike in a midnight navy dress which she got from Erdem’s Resort 2013 collection. The silhouette of this knee-length dress is simple and classic but the floral design (combining blue and pink) looks charming and dreamy. The sheer 3/4 sleeves also made the look more feminine.

5. Amy Adams in J. Mendel Spring 2013 Dress

I’m not really sure if I like Amy Adams’ dress here or not but she definitely managed to catch attention. Her recent outfits wowed me particularly her Marchesa fishtail gown at the Golden Globe Awards 2013, and also her Vionnet dress at the 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. This J. Mendel dress, on the other hand, is a so-so. She screamed girly in this long-sleeved, purple floral print dress and I’m happy that she pulled it off. The dress may look too conservative but there’s actually a cutout on the back (not seen on the photos) to add a hint of sexiness.

6. Quvenzhane Wallis in David Meister

Nine-year-old Oscar nominee Quvenzhane has been dressing up in David Meister recently and if I’m not mistaken, this is her third. Also, she’s been carrying different puppy purses, too, which is cute for her age.  Her purple dress, which features gems at the neckline, looks good on her. I wonder what color she will wear next.

7. Sally Field in Alberta Ferretti Spring 2013 Dress

Lincoln actress Sally Field dressed luncheon-appropriate. Her Alberta Ferretti ivory dress looks comfy as it features chiffon with seamed lace detailing as well as a ruffled hem. I wonder why the sleeves on her dress looked plain because originally (as seen on the runway), the dress has ruffled lace cap sleeves.

8. Helen Hunt in Dolce & Gabbana

The Sessions nominated actress chose a very simple pewter knee-length dress by Dolce & Gabbana. It’s a classic and it features square neckline and ruched effect. I love the simplicity and sophistication here. She also wore minimal make-up and accessories to finish her look.

9. Jacki Weaver in a Bright Orange Cocktail Dress

Jackie Weaver was indeed the only nominee who wore a bright orange cocktail knee-length dress. She even paired it with red-orange dangling earrings and matching nail polish.
